Out of School Girls in Nigeria: Implications for National Development

Education is a right for all children. Discriminating against either the boys or girls has serious consequences future national development. In Nigeria, there are alarming figures showing large percentage of and school age not attending formal education. The focus this paper therefore on girl child bearing in mind implications education them society. 2019, 10.19 million children were found to be out 38% girls. Some factors attributed ugly situation Nigeria early marriage, pregnancy, violence at schools, funding targeted boys, child/domestic labour, dangerous journeys kidnapping, poor sanitation dilapidated desks/chairs, few female teachers encourage attend school, religious traditional practices etc. addressing these as identified will lead slower economic growth reduced income, gender disparity, mortality rates communities soar, she cannot policy maker who influences decisions women less likely have access social protection. Finally, recommendations like adequate sector, provision enabling environment, create more awareness among rural dwellers need enroll, retain complete Girls4Girls SHE4HE programmes UNICEF sustained, security proffered.
